The Los Angeles Rams have made several additions at wide receiver this offseason as they brought in the likes of Davante Adams and Britain Covey, while additionally parting ways with franchise icon Cooper Kupp.

The Rams designated Kupp as a post-June 1 cut after failing to find a trade partner, a move that will create $15 million in cap space.

The former receiving triple crown winner spent eight seasons with the Rams and established himself as one of the greatest wide receivers in franchise history. It didn’t take him long to find a new home as he signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks.

Kupp wore the No. 10 for most of his stint with the Rams and it will now be passed on to Covey, who joined L.A. on a one-year contract earlier this month.

Many fans have expressed their displeasure that the Rams were so quick to give Kupp’s No. 10 to a new player. Given the negative reaction, it is possible the team could change course before training camp starts in July.

Covey wore the No. 18 during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles, which makes the Rams’ decision to give him Kupp’s longtime number even more puzzling. Covey is not the impact player that Kupp was, but he improves the team’s depth at wide receiver and could make most of his contributions as a punt returner.

Covey joins a talented Rams wide receiver room that includes Adams, Puka Nacua, Tutu Atwell, Jordan Whittington and Xavier Smith, among others.

Rams gave Cooper Kupp final send-off

Before leaving L.A. for his home state of Washington last month, the Rams gave Cooper Kupp a final send-off. Among those present were Puka Nacua, Matthew Stafford and Jordan Whittington, along with former Rams left tackle Andrew Whitworth.

Kupp remaining in the NFC West means the Rams will have to face him twice a season. “Yeah, I am. I am looking forward to it,” Kupp answered when asked if he is excited to play his old team.

“That didn’t play into the decision to come here, but it was a nice little thing on the side to be able to go against those guys. So much respect for the coaching staff, the way that they handle things down there, the players down there.

“I am excited about it, though It’s going to be a really cool thing. When that time comes, it’ll just be football at that point. But I am looking forward to it.”
