The Los Angeles Rams came away with a 44-42 win over the Buffalo Bills in Week 14 behind one of their best offensive performances of the season.
Matthew Stafford completed 23 of his 30 passes for 320 yards and two touchdowns, with Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp both finding the end zone.
The Rams’ run game was not as effective as Kyren Williams averaged only three yards per carry on 29 attempts but still scored two touchdowns. Rookie running back Blake Corum also got some work in as he rushed for 34 yards on eight carries.
Corum most of his work in the first half, which is a strategy the Rams have been utilizing as of late. “Yeah, that has been. I think it’s good to be able to get both of those guys some work,” head coach Sean McVay answered when asked why Corum has been getting more touches early in games.
“You can really maximize… obviously, Kyren [Williams] is our starter, but continue to take advantage of Blake. I think he’s done a nice job each of the last two weeks getting a few more opportunities. I think it keeps Kyren fresher throughout the course of the game. Obviously, as games go on, there are some different scenarios, especially when you’re in a tight game like what yesterday was that elicits a little bit different response.
“Blake being out there is something that I think’s been earned and I think it’s best for the group overall while keeping Kyren as fresh as possible while still allowing him to impact the game. You’re accurate on that for sure.”
While Williams has been the workhorse for the Rams this season, Corum’s role has steadily increased in recent weeks. His emergence has given the team two reliable options in the backfield, making their offense even more dangerous.
The third-round pick out of Michigan has rushed for 182 yards on 45 carries this season. Although he is still looking for his first NFL touchdown, Corum has totaled an impressive 76 yards on 16 carries over the last two games.
Matthew Stafford credits offensive line in Rams’ win over Bills
Matthew Stafford credited the offensive line for keeping him upright and opening up some room in the running game after the Rams’ win over the Bills. “I think our guys did an amazing job up front,” Stafford said. “When you look at it, in the run game and the pass game, they did a great job of keeping me clean against a really good rush.
“We had some creases in the run game too so it starts with those guys. They did a hell of a job and when they do that, it allows us to go operate at the receiver spot, at the running back spot and at my spot. I’m just proud of those guys and the effort they put forward today.”
