The Los Angeles Rams finally got to celebrate something during the 2022 season when they managed to overcome a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 14.

Everything was working against the Rams, but they found a way to get a win against a Raiders squad that still has an outside shot of making the playoffs. Perhaps one of the best stories of the season came to life when Baker Mayfield –who arrived to Los Angeles just two days prior to the game– led the team on their game-winning drive that culminated in a touchdown to Van Jefferson.

Ahead of their Week 15 tilt against the Green Bay Packers, head coach Sean McVay announced John Wolford would probably be out which opens the door for Mayfield to make his first start for the Rams, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:

McVay also said that quarterback John Wolford (neck) will “probably” be out this week, indicating Baker Mayfield is slated to start once again. If Wolford is ruled out, the Rams will likely have two quarterbacks active against the Packers in Mayfield and Bryce Perkins, per McVay.

Off the bench, Mayfield managed to go 22-of-35 for 230 yards and one touchdown. His performance was nothing short of amazing when you consider how little preparation he had coupled with the adverse situation of the game.

Mayfield should be in line to start the rest of the way for L.A. even if Wolford is able to return given that there’s no benefit to them losing. The Rams owe their 2023 first-round pick to the Detroit Lions as part of the Matthew Stafford deal, so seeing what they have in Mayfield is their best course of action.
