The Los Angeles Rams are looking very different after a number of trades this week. One of the team’s new players is offensive lineman Austin Corbett, who came over from the Cleveland Browns.
Corbett was drafted by the Browns in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Before that, Corbett grew up in Nevada and attended college there.
Although it has been a whirlwind experience for Corbett the last few days, he expressed his happiness in returning west of the Mississippi, via the Rams official Twitter:
“It’s been quite the 28, 32 hours now at this point. It was a long flight out here but, it’s good to be back on the West coast. That helps out a lot, good to see mountains again. I don’t got any time to waste. I thought I was going into a bye week, not anymore, getting ready for the Falcons.”
There is really no saying what Corbett’s role will be on the Rams. Although he is currently listed behind left guard Jamil Demby, it would not be surprising to see Corbett eventually slide into the starting role. Rookie David Edwards is actually going to be getting the start at left guard this weekend after Joseph Noteboom tore both his ACL and MCL in Week 6.
It is no secret that the Rams’ offensively line has struggled this season as quarterback Jared Goff has already been sacked 12 times in addition to being under pressure many other times.
Wherever Corbett ends up, he is looking forward to learning from the more experienced players on the Rams offensive line like tackles Rob Havenstein and Andrew Whitworth:
“Just two guys who have been around a long time, they know the game right. It’s a great opportunity for me to come in and learn behind these guys who played a lot of ball, just excited to get with them.”
Corbett has played 14 games and started just one so far in his NFL career. He spent four years playing tackle at the University of Nevada, Reno and in his senior year allowed no sacks against Mountain West Conference opponents.
Hopefully, Corbett will be able to come in and make a difference on the offensive line that has clearly been the Rams’ weakest spot throughout 2019. If the line can provide more security, it should lead to the offense finding more consistency and the team winning more games.
