Rams News: Aqib Talib Helping Marcus Peters Learn New Defense

The Los Angeles Rams made a splash with the acquisition of Pro Bowl cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters this offseason. It appears the two have already started to hit it off in organized team activities.

As with any new player, there is a bit of a transitioning process. Fortunately, Talib’s familiarity with the Rams’ defense has allowed him to take Peters under his wing in study sessions, according to Andrew Ortenberg of the Rams Wire:

“He’s learning the defense. He’s sitting next to me in the meetings, asks questions, and I’m there for him,” Talib said. “I’ll help him as much as I can.”

It goes without saying that Talib may be much more ahead of the curve than Peters is. He spent arguably the best years of his career playing in defensive coordinator Wade Phillips’ system. Not only can he help Peters get acclimated but he can also show him how to thrive in the new scheme.

Furthermore, Talib is no stranger to switching teams during the offseason. While he is far from a journeyman, the veteran has become somewhat familiar with relocation throughout the course of his career. Meanwhile, this will be the first time Peters has done so after spending his first three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Los Angeles now boasts arguably the best cornerback tandem in the league on paper. Over the last three seasons, Talib and Peters have combined for 26 interceptions and seven forced fumbles. Both players are known for their aggressive play style in the secondary and it appears Phillips has no intention of toning that down any time soon. However, the sooner Talib can get Peters full adjusted, the better off this Rams defense will be going into the 2018 NFL season.
