It is no secret that the Los Angeles Rams defense has struggled throughout the course of the 2018 NFL season. Fortunately, it appears help will soon be on the way in the form of Aqib Talib.
Talib has been sidelined since undergoing ankle surgery back in September. According to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, he is optimistic about a return in Week 13:
“I had a great visit with the doctor today. It looks like the week after Thanksgiving, I’ll be full speed, ready to go.”
The update is music to the ears of Rams fans everywhere. Talib’s presence has been sorely missed as the secondary has been torched on multiple occasions this year. There was plenty of optimism that their depth would be able to maintain in his absence. Unfortunately, their performance has been one of the biggest disappointments thus far.
At the forefront of their struggles is Marcus Peters. Los Angeles had high hopes for the young playmaker when they acquired him this offseason. However, his aggressive play style has led to more bad than good. To make matters worse, Troy Hill and Sam Shields have hardly proven to be viable alternatives.
Talib has been on injured reserve since suffering the ankle injury. Fortunately, his update puts him in line to return once he is eligible in Week 13 versus the Detroit Lions. Although Los Angeles would like to have him back for their showdown with the high-powered Kansas City Chiefs in Week 11, their bye in Week 12 will give them some extra time to get the veteran acclimated once again. That said, it will be interesting to see if Talib’s presence can help improve this porous secondary.
