Although the Los Angeles Rams managed to secure one of their biggest wins of the 2020 NFL season over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 10, they are holding their breath to determine the status of left tackle Andrew Whitworth.
Whitworth went down after a collision with linebacker K.J. Wright during the second quarter. He was eventually able to get up with some assistance before being carted off the field.
The initial concern was that Whitworth may have suffered a torn ACL, which would have effectively ruled him out for the rest of the season. However, it appears there is some silver lining with his injury.
Sean McVay gave an update on Whitworth’s status and although he is dealing with a torn MCL and PCL, it’s not believed to be season-ending, via Greg Beacham of the Associated Press:
Rams LT Andrew Whitworth has a Grade 3 MCL/PCL, Sean McVay says: "He'll be out for a handful of time. Whether it's 6 weeks, 8 weeks, you don't really know." McVay emphasizes it's NOT definitely season-ending.

While it remains to be seen if Whitworth did indeed suffer a torn ACL, the Rams are holding out hope that they were able to dodge a bullet. Regardless, the veteran will be placed on injured reserve and miss at least three games until further notice.
Whitworth took to Instagram on Sunday night to express thanks for all the support and to let everyone know that he is ready to attack his rehab to get back as soon as possible.

The loss of Whitworth deals a crushing blow to a Rams’ offense that was already struggling to establish their rhythm. His status as a foundational piece and stabilizing factor for the offensive line now leaves a notable void up front until further notice.
The Rams’ decision to elevate Joe Noteboom back to the active roster could not have come at a more ideal time. Despite missing the past six games with a calf injury, he did a solid job of filling in for Whitworth during the rest of the 23-16 win over Seattle.
Whitworth signed a three-year, $30 million extension back in March at the ripe age of 39. The timing of his injury could not have come at a worse time with matchups against NFC West rivals in back-to-back weeks following their trip to Tampa Bay this Monday.
The onus will fall on Noteboom to take on an integral role moving forward until there is more clarity on Whitworth’s status.
