One of the most underrated aspects of the Los Angeles Rams’ stellar 2017 NFL season was how well-protected quarterback Jared Goff had been all year. The biggest reason being, of course, was due to the addition of left tackle Andrew Whitworth.

The veteran continues to beat Father Time after being selected to his third consecutive Pro Bowl and the fourth of his 12-year career. According to Larry Holder of the Times-Picayune, NFC head coach Sean Payton has named Whitworth one of the team captains:

His selection should come as no surprise. Whitworth fit in seamlessly as one of the Rams’ unquestioned leaders after coming over from the Cincinnati Bengals. He was also named a team captain for last year’s Pro Bowl Game with the AFC.

Judging by the other names listed, it is clear to see there was a pattern of the most veteran players of their perspective teams. Needless to say, Whitworth has come a long way from initially being snubbed from the original vote. Fortunately, he ultimately wound up making the trip as the first alternate. That said, it is clear that Whitworth has received a tremendous amount of respect from his peers for the work he has put in over the years.

Furthermore, Los Angeles will be well-represented at this year’s festivities in Orlando. The season-ending injury to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has resulted in quarterback Jared Goff being invited to join the trip. As a result, the Rams will have eight total representatives in the Pro Bowl.
