The Los Angeles Rams attempted to make a splash this past offseason when they signed Allen Robinson to a three-year contract worth nearly $47 million. But so far, things have not gone as planned for either side in what has become a nightmare season.
Robinson was coming off the worst year of his career where he caught just 38 passes for 410 yards before signing the contract, and thus far his lack of production has continued with the Rams.
Now, his first year in L.A. took a turn for the worse as head coach Sean McVay announced after a loss against the Kansas City Chiefs that the veteran wide receiver will undergo season-ending foot surgery, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
Rams head coach Sean McVay said Sunday afternoon that wide receiver Allen Robinson II will undergo foot surgery and miss the remainder of the season.
“It’s another tough loss for us,” McVay said postgame after the Rams’ 26-10 loss to the Chiefs.
Robinson missed the Week 12 matchup against the Chiefs on Sunday while dealing with the foot injury, joining Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp among the Rams’ injured players. Injuries have been piling up for the defending Super Bowl Champions, who now sit in the last spot in the NFC West with a 3-8 record.
Through 10 games, the former Pro Bowler caught just 33 passes on 52 targets for 339 yards and three touchdowns while posting a career-low 10.3 yards per catch. In addition, the 29-year-old averaged just 2.1 yards of separation per route run, the third-lowest mark in the NFL among qualified receivers.
However, Robinson did start to find some success before the injury beginning with a Week 6 game where he hauled in five catches for 63 yards and a touchdown, and in Week 11 he had four catches for 47 yards while finding the end zone once again.
Over 110 games in his career, Robinson has been targeted 901 times, catching 528 passes for 6,748 yards, an average of 12.8 yards per catch, with 43 touchdowns. In 2015 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he was selected to his first, and only, Pro Bowl roster when he led the NFL with 14 touchdown receptions while racking up 1,400 yards on 80 receptions.
