The Los Angeles Rams offense projects to be one of the NFL’s most productive during the upcoming 2022 season.
With Matthew Stafford, head coach Sean McVay has begun to tweak his offensive scheme to feature more vertical concepts versus the play-action heavy style he became known for. More changes to the offense are expected after the Rams traded away Robert Woods and replaced him with Allen Robinson in free agency.
So far during training camp, Robinson has been drawing rave reviews from the coaches and his teammates as he continues to assimilate himself within the team. According to Stu Jackson of TheRams.com, the wideout has been enjoying the learning process in Los Angeles:
“It’s been good. It’s been exciting,” Robinson said after Day 4. “Again, those little things like that make camp fun. Like I said before, just making sure we’re always on the same page as you’re going through different routes timing wise, ball placement, just everything. Constant communication from play-to-play.”
As far as how comfortable he feels in the system, Robinson said he is making good progress:
“I feel pretty good,” Robinson said. “Just kind of learning some little nuances and things like that. Maybe play-specific stuff or things like that. But for the most part I feel pretty good.”
McVay’s offense is incredibly nuanced with multiple concepts per play and so far it sounds like Robinson’s been able to handle everything thrown at him as he continues to get more familiar with his role. Unlike Woods, Robinson is a more physical receiver who can win contested catches, but he’s also an excellent route runner who should be able to show more of his versatility in Los Angeles.
Alongside Cooper Kupp, Robinson has a real chance to flourish and prove that he belongs in the upper tiers of receivers in the league. For now, though, his job is to learn the playbook like the back of his hand.
