The Los Angeles Rams announced on Friday that left tackle Alaric Jackson has been suspended two games without pay for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. No other details on the suspension were given but the NFL’s personal conduct policy applies to a player’s public image and personal life, and prohibits conduct that could endanger players, damage the league’s reputation, or bring discredit to the sport.

With this suspension, Jackson will miss the Rams’ first two games of the season, on the road against the Detroit Lions and the Arizona Cardinals, before returning in Week 3 for the home opener against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Rams re-signed Jackson this offseason to a one-year restricted tender worth $4.89 million, keeping him on the roster for the 2024 season. He is projected to be the team’s starting left tackle when he returns, coming off a career year at the position.

It’s possible that Jackson would have missed the first game or two regardless as he has been sidelined for most of training camp with an ankle injury.

In his absence, the Rams will likely turn to Joe Noteboom at left tackle in Weeks 1 and 2. He has filled in at a variety of positions in recent years but was originally viewed as the heir apparent to Andrew Whitworth at left tackle.

The Rams put an added emphasis on the offensive line this offseason, wanting to make sure they protect Matthew Stafford up front. While it’s unfortunate that their left tackle will already be missing some time, they should have the depth in place to withstand this for the first couple of weeks before Jackson is able to return.

Rams waive cornerback Jerry Jacobs with injury settlement

In a separate roster move, the Rams also announced that they have waived cornerback Jerry Jacobs with an injury settlement. It’s unclear what injury Jacobs is dealing with but his stay in the organization was a short one after being signed a few weeks ago to add depth to the secondary while others were dealing with injuries of their own.
