The Kansas City Chiefs rallied to earn a 25-22 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, becoming the first NFL team to repeat as champions since the 2003-2004 New England Patriots.

Patrick Mahomes was named the MVP after throwing for 333 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning pass to Mecole Hardman that helped the Chiefs capture their third Super Bowl victory in five years.

The 49ers at one point held a 10-0 lead in the second quarter, but saw that slowly evaporate as the offense struggled to find the end zone. As a result of the heartbreaking loss, the team’s Super Bowl drought will extend to 30 years when the 2024 season begins.

Los Angeles Rams All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald had some fun at the expense of the 49ers, posting a photo of himself with his Super Bowl LVI ring, via Cameron DaSilva of USA Today:

Donald doesn’t do much trash talking on the field but he made sure to remind the 49ers of what they have been lacking since the 1994 season.

Donald and the Rams ended a long championship drought when the team defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.

The 49ers are 7-2 in their last nine meetings against the Rams, but one of those losses came in the 2022 NFC Championship Game that allowed L.A. to reach the Super Bowl.

The 49ers should once again be in the Super Bowl picture next year as they are the betting favorites to win the championship. However, the Rams will also have a strong team and that should lead to some entertaining battles in the NFC West.

Steve Young believes Zach Wilson should join Rams in free agency

Matthew Stafford has already committed to returning to the Rams next season, but legendary 49ers quarterback Steve Young believes the team should take a flier on Zach Wilson in free agency.
