For a moment, there seemed to be a real possibility that the Los Angeles Rams were going to lose Aaron Donald to retirement.

Donald was non-committal about his future with the franchise before Super Bowl LVI, but after the Rams won, they immediately began to work on a new deal for their star defensive tackle. After months of talks, Los Angeles and Donald agreed on a three-year, $95 million restructure that made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history.

With Donald in tow for the next few seasons, Los Angeles’ defense should remain one of the best units in the NFL. Some might wonder whether or not Donald will play the entirety of his current deal out, but he committed to playing at least through the end of the 2023 campaign, via Peter King of Pro Football Talk:

“I got a two-year commitment right now, so I’m going to do everything I can while I’m here to help the organization win and be successful. I’m gonna last as long as I can, as long as I can play at a high level,” Donald said.

Even at 31 years old, Donald remains the best player at his position and still has the ability to single-handedly wreck an opposing offense. That kind of dominance and production makes him worth every penny, and the Rams are fortunate that he’ll be suiting up for them presumably until he retires.

As far as the 2022 season is concerned, Donald will be one of Los Angeles’ pillars as they look to repeat as Super Bowl champions. With most of last season’s roster intact, Donald has a good chance at adding more hardware to his collection.
