The Los Angeles Rams announced that Aaron Donald and Kyren Williams were named to the Professional Football Writers of America’s 2023 All-NFL and 2023 All-NFC teams.
This is the eighth time that Donald’s been named to the PFWA All-NFL team, breaking a tie with former defensive tackle and Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy White for the most selections at the position. Although it was a quieter year from Donald from a production standpoint, he still managed to record eight sacks, 53 total tackles and 23 quarterback hits.
Donald was named to his 10th straight Pro Bowl roster, but will not be participating due to an injury. He was also named to the NFL’s First-Team All-Pro group. The Kansas City Chiefs’ Chris Jones was the other defensive tackle to make All-NFL.
Meanwhile, Kyren Williams was named to the PFWA teams for the first time in his career after a dominant 2023 season. Williams took over as the lead back for the Rams after Cam Akers was traded to the Minnesota Vikings and he took full advantage of his opportunity.
Despite missing four games due to a high-ankle injury, Williams was still the league’s second-leading rusher with 1,144 yards. The running back became the first player in NFL history to finish top-3 in rushing yards after missing five games as well as Los Angeles’ first 1000-yard rusher since Todd Gurley in 2018.
Like Donald, Williams was also named to the Pro Bowl roster though he underwent hand surgery following the Wild Card Round loss to the Detroit Lions that leaves him up in the air for the event. Christian McCaffrey was Williams’ counterpart on both the All-NFL and All-NFC teams for the running back position.
While it was good to see Donald and Williams recognized for their seasons, Puka Nacua was snubbed after his historic rookie season. Amon-Ra St. Brown and CeeDee Lamb earned spots on the PFWA All-NFC team, with Tyreek Hill and Lamb making the All-NFL team.
Rob Havenstein believes young Rams roster will benefit from experience
Coming into the season, not many people took the Rams seriously after they scrubbed their roster of veterans with hefty contracts. L.A. decided to lean on their rookies and young players to get through the year and they outperformed expectations.
Rob Havenstein was one of the few veteran holdovers that was tasked with helping develop his younger teammates and he believes that the roster will benefit from their regular season and playoff experience.
