Rams Legend Eric Dickerson Among 12 Running Backs Named To NFL 100 All-Time Team

Los Angeles Rams legend Eric Dickerson was among the 12 running backs named to the NFL 100 All-Time Team on Friday. Joining him on the list include Jim Brown, Earl Campbell, Dutch Clark, Lenny Moore, Marlon Motley, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, Gale Sayers, O.J. Simpson, Emmitt Smith and Steve Van Buren.

The construction of the NFL 100 All-Time Team began in early 2018 with the appointment of a 26-person blue-ribbon voting panel made up of coaches, team and front office executives, former players and members of the media.

The Rams selected Dickerson out of SMU with the second overall pick in the 1983 NFL Draft. He spent parts of the first five seasons of his career with L.A., earning Pro Bowl nods in four of them.

Over the span of 65 games with the Rams, Dickerson rushed for 7,245 yards on 1,525 attempts — good for an average of 4.8 yards per carry. He added 56 touchdowns on the ground while additionally recording 123 receptions, 912 receiving yards and two touchdowns through the air.

The Rams traded Dickerson to the Indianapolis Colts just three games into the 1987 season. He played some of his best football with the organization before moving on to the Los Angeles Raiders and Atlanta Falcons for separate one-year stints.

After appearing in just four games with the Falcons during the 1993 season, Dickerson was traded to the Green Bay Packers. He failed his physical with the organization and never played another down, wrapping up an incredible 11-year playing career.

Among the many accolades Dickerson earned include 1983 NFL Offensive Rookie Player of the Year honors, six Pro Bowl appearances and five first-team All-Pro selections. He additionally led the NFL in rushing yards on four occasions and holds the single-season record (2,105), set during the 1984 season.

Dickerson was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1999. He signed a one-day contract to officially retire with the Rams in 2017. His No. 29 jersey is also retired by the franchise.

Another portion of the NFL 100 All-Time Team will be unveiled on Friday, Nov. 29, when some of the sport’s greatest linebackers and defensive linemen are recognized.
