Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has to be relived that he and the team have their bye this week as they clearly could use it.
Los Angeles suffered another loss, this time to the Green Bay Packers in Week 5 that dropped them down to 1-4 and last in the NFC West. It’s been a rough start to the 2024 season for the Rams who were hoping to compete for a playoff spot, but it already looks like that might be difficult to achieve at this rate.
Injuries have haunted Los Angeles this year as they’ve been without several of their offensive players like Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. The offensive line is also beat up as Steve Avila and Jonah Jackson are currently on injured reserve while Kevin Dotson is playing through a foot injury.
McVay has had to deal with a lot, but fortunately he announced the players came out relatively unscathed following the loss to the Packers, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“In terms of injury updates coming out of the Packers game, McVay said there were some “nicks and bruises” – wide receiver Jordan Whittington had a shoulder injury, offensive lineman Alaric Jackson had some swelling in knee, defensive end Braden Fiske has a sore shoulder, safety Kam Curl has hip soreness and quarterback Matthew Stafford back soreness – but none of those injuries are expected to affect each player’s availability when Los Angeles returns from its bye week.”
Through five weeks of football, it’s fair to expect players to be dealing with various injuries given the nature of the sport. While the number of names that McVay listed seems fairly long, it sounds like there isn’t any danger of them missing time.
Los Angeles can ill afford another injury to a key player as their depth is already depleted, so it’s good the bye week will allow players to rest up and get their bodies ready for the rest of the regular season. The Rams aren’t out of the playoff race just yet, but time is starting to run out for them to dig themselves out of the hole they’re in.
Sean McVay explains why Tre’Davious White was inactive for Rams against Packers
One of the few players actually healthy and available to play is Tre’Davious White, who was surprisingly inactive against Green Bay. McVay later explained that the decision was performance related and that he felt better about the other defensive backs on the roster.
