The Los Angeles Rams announced some unfortunate injury news as linebacker Josh Carraway will miss the entire 2019-20 season with a torn Achilles and offensive lineman Aaron Neary is out indefinitely with a fractured ankle. Both injuries were suffered during the Rams’ preseason win over the Denver Broncos on Saturday night.
The Rams signed Carraway this past May and while he was listed as a fourth-stringer at outside linebacker on the depth chart, he had a legit opportunity to make the roster and was expected to make an impact on special teams this season.
In three preseason games, Carraway had three total tackles and a sack in limited action for the Rams.
Neary has spent some time both on the Rams practice squad and 53-man roster the past two seasons and he is expected to be the team’s backup center behind Brian Allen this season. He is required to undergo surgery though so it is currently uncertain how long he will be out.
Vitas Hrynkiewicz, an undrafted free agent out of Youngstown State, is now the only backup center on the roster so it will be interesting to see if the Rams look outside the organization.
Rams head coach Sean McVay spoke about the losses of both Carraway and Neary, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“That’s unfortunate news for those two guys,” McVay said.
McVay has sat out most of his starters for the entire preseason, and this is the exact reason why. Los Angeles also lost starting linebacker Micah Kiser to a significant pectoral injury earlier in the preseason.
With two more lost players to injury, that opens up a couple of roster spots as McVay and his staff put the final 53-man roster together after this weekend’s final preseason game.
