The Los Angeles Rams got their Thursday night game out of the way early this year, traveling to take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5 and coming away with a big victory to improve to 4-1.
Unfortunately though, the Rams did not come out of the game clean as starting cornerback Darious Williams suffered an ankle injury in the second half and did not return.
The good thing is the Rams now have a 10-day break in between games, which may be enough for Williams to record. According to head coach Sean McVay, Williams suffered a mild ankle sprain although he is not yet sure of a timetable for his return, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
Rams head coach Sean McVay on Friday said cornerback Darious Williams sustained a “mild” ankle sprain against the Seahawks and that there is no timetable yet for his return.
“The severity of it is to be determined,” McVay said during a video conference with reporters. “Whether that means he will be able to play next week or whether that means he will miss next week (against the Giants), don’t have that determination yet, but it looks like it’s going to be a mild ankle sprain. We’ll continue to gather information on that.”
If Williams is forced to miss any time then it will be young cornerbacks like Robert Rochell and David Long Jr. that see time in his absence.
Long struggled as the team’s third corner to begin the year, which led to him being replaced in the starting lineup by Rochell against the Seahawks. McVay was happy with what he saw from the rookie in the win, so Rochell should get plenty of more opportunities moving forward.
Outside of Williams, the Rams did not suffer any other injuries on Thursday night. Matthew Stafford dislocated his finger, although he remained in the game and is not concerned about his status moving forward.
