The Los Angeles Rams made several additions at the start of NFL free agency as they signed defensive tackle Poona Ford to a three-year contract and also brought back backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on a one-year deal.
The Rams previously signed All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams to a two-year contract and appear to be closing in on a reunion with former Chicago Bears center Coleman Shelton.
While the Rams have been focused on bringing in new talent to the organization, they are expecting to lose several players over the coming weeks as well.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, defensive tackle Bobby Brown III is signing a three-year contract with the Carolina Panthers:
The Panthers aren’t done, adding Rams free agent DT Bobby Brown III to their defensive line, sources say. It’s a 3-year, $21M deal for Bobby Brown III that can go to $27M including incentives, source says.
Brown was originally selected by the Rams in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He started his career in a reserve role before becoming a starter at nose tackle during the 2023 season.
However, Brown was on the field for less than half of the Rams’ defensive snaps over the last two years.
The 24-year-old recently expressed frustration about his role in a post to the Rams’ official X (formerly known as Twitter) account, so it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that he decided to sign elsewhere.
Brown recorded 84 tackles, 0.5 sacks and two quarterback hits in parts of four seasons with the Rams (49 games). He will now look to make more of an impact with the Panthers, playing alongside the likes of Derrick Brown, A’Shawn Robinson and Shy Tuttle.
Rams losses in free agency
Brown was among three players from the 2024 Rams roster to find new homes on the first day of free agency.
Tight end Hunter Long signed a two-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars and linebacker Michael Hoecht joined the Buffalo Bills on a three-year deal.
The Rams previously traded Jonah Jackson to the Bears for a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and plan to release Cooper Kupp if they can’t deal him to another team.
