Rams Exercise Fifth-Year Option For 2020 On Jared Goff’s Contract

The Los Angeles Rams announced that they have exercised the fifth-year option on quarterback Jared Goff’s contract to keep him in Los Angeles through 2020.

The Rams, of course, traded up to draft Goff with the No. 1 overall pick in 2016 out of Cal. After a rough rookie season with the team under head coach Jeff Fisher, Goff has really found his form the last two seasons after Sean McVay took over head coaching duties.

Goff has led the Rams to NFC West division titles in each of the last two seasons, advancing all the way to the Super Bowl in 2018 when Los Angeles lost to the New England Patriots.

In his three-year career, Goff has completed 62.1 percent of his passes while throwing 65 touchdowns compared to 26 interceptions. He was named a Pro Bowler in both 2017 and 2018.

After they picked up the option, McVay expressed his confidence in Goff to lead the Rams to a Super Bowl, via Greg Beacham of the Associated Press:

Sean McVay reaffirms that the Rams are completely all-in on Jared Goff: "This is a guy that is the ultimate leader, and he's only getting better and better. We feel so good about him leading our team for many years to come."

— Greg Beacham (@gregbeacham) April 23, 2019

The fifth-year option is worth $22.783 million, which is a hefty raise from the $4.3 million that Goff will make in 2019.

If Goff continues the production he has over the last two seasons, then he will be in for a monster contract extension with the Rams if they want to keep him. The most recent quarterback contract extension was four years, $140 million for Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks.
