Los Angeles Rams coaching consultant Scott Frost was named the new head coach of the UCF Knights after Gus Malzahn resigned to become the offensive coordinator for Florida State.
It marks a return for Frost, who coached the Trojans from 2016-2017. “I’m deeply honored to return to UCF, a school that has always held a special place in my heart,” Frost said.
“The foundation we built here has only grown stronger, and I am thrilled to continue shaping this program’s legacy. As we prepare for year three in the Big 12 Conference, I look forward to working alongside our dedicated student-athletes, talented staff, and passionate fans to reach new heights together.”
Frost inherited a Trojans team that went 0-12 during the 2015 season, and in just two years, led them to a historic 13-0 record.
UCF did not receive a spot in the College Football Playoff, but the Knights proclaimed themselves as national champions during the 2017 season.
Frost went a combined 19-7 in two seasons at UCF, a span that saw the Knights lead the nation with 48.2 points per game. UCF was the only FBS team to score at least 30 points in every game during the 2017 season.
Frost was the unanimous choice for 2017 AAC Coach of the Year and named national coach of the year by the Associated Press.
Following his two years at UCF, Frost served as the head football coach at the University of Nebraska from 2018 to 2022, posting a 16-31 record with the Cornhuskers.
Frost’s tenure was defined by close losses, as 23 of his 31 defeats were by single digits, including each of his final 13. Nebraska lost 22 one-score games during Frost’s career, including 12 games by five or fewer points.
After being fired by Nebraska, Frost took a year off before joining the Rams as a senior football analyst.

Rams defensive tackle Braden Fiske was named the NFL Rookie of the Month for November.
In four games, Fiske led the Rams with five sacks to go along with four tackles for loss, a forced fumble, five quarterback hits and 11 total tackles.
According to Pro Football Focus, Fiske had the fourth-most pressures among rookies during November with 13, which was also the most for an interior defensive lineman.
Overall in the 2024 season, Fiske has collected 35 tackles, six sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, eight tackles for loss and six quarterback hits.
Fiske is the seventh Rams rookie to receive Rookie of the Month honors and just the third defensive player. He joins teammate Jared Verse, who previously won the award for the month of September.
