As the Los Angeles Rams get set to host the Arizona Cardinals in the first round of the playoffs, they are currently dealing with a number of injuries.

Perhaps the biggest area of concern comes at the safety position as both of the Rams’ starters are currently injured. Jordan Fuller suffered an ankle injury in the Week 18 loss to the San Francisco 49ers that was unfortunately deemed season-ending, so he will not be available for the playoffs.

Taylor Rapp also suffered a head injury against the 49ers and is currently in concussion protocols. The hope is that he will be cleared to play against the Cardinals, but ultimately that is beyond his and the Rams’ control.

With that, it appears the Rams are bringing in some reinforcements at the safety position. Eric Weddle retired from the NFL after playing one season with the Rams in 2019, but that retirement was not for good as his agent David Canter of GSE Worldwide confirmed that he is returning to the Rams for the upcoming playoff run:

With only a week notice, it remains to be seen if Weddle will be able to suit up and see the field against the Cardinals, although he likely will, especially if Rapp can’t play.

Other options for the Rams at safety include Nick Scott, who has also been banged up recently, and Terrell Burgess, who has only played sparingly in his first season back from injury.

Weddle definitely brings experience to the Rams as a six-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro, but he is 37 years of age and hasn’t played in two years, so it will be interesting to see what he has left in the tank.
