The Los Angeles Rams announced they signed free agents tight end Jared Pinkney and running back A.J. Rose. Terms of their deals were not disclosed.
Pinkney is a familiar face as he spent a couple of months on the Rams practice squad before being signed to the Detroit Lions’ active roster this past December. Rose went undrafted in the 2021 NFL Draft but signed with the Minnesota Vikings, where he spent time on their practice squad.
Pinkney and Rose now fill two more spots on Los Angeles’ 90-man roster and will have a shot to compete for a spot on the final 53 during training camp. The two make sense as targets because the Rams have sustained several injuries to the tight end and running back rooms, so Pinkney and Rose could provide decent depth at those positions.
As of now, Tyler Higbee and Cam Akers lead those respective spots on the field and the Rams have a few players behind them that can hold down the fort. Higbee was unable to play in the Super Bowl due to a knee issue, while Akers was trying to work his way back from offseason Achilles surgery. With them healthy, though, they should expect to take the lion’s share of snaps in the offense.
Pinkney may find it difficult to earn a spot playing behind Higbee, Kendall Blanton and Brycen Hopkins, but seems like a solid candidate to make the practice squad once again. Rose, on the other hand, may have an outside shot considering the injuries the current running backs have sustained. It it not likely, but he makes for a decent option should anything happen between now and the season.
