The Los Angeles Rams announced their first wave of roster cuts, releasing 18 players as they inch towards setting their 53-man roster on Saturday.
The players that were cut included Brandon Allen, Kendall Blanton, Romello Brooker, Keenan Brown, Matt Colburn, Jake Gervase, Jalen Greene, Brandon Hitner, Vitas Hrynkiewicz, Bryant Jones, Matt Kaskey, Ketner Kupp, Johnathan Lloyd, Brock Miller, Austin Proehl, Ramon Richards and Boogie Roberts.
There weren’t really many surprises among that group, although head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead still have a ton of tough decisions to make ahead of Saturday’s deadline.
Allen came into training camp this year as the team’s third quarterback behind Jared Goff and Blake Bortles. John Wolford largely outplayed him in the preseason though and has not been waived yet, so if the Rams do decide to keep three quarterbacks, it looks like he won the job over Allen.
Another notable name from the players who got was Kupp, who was an undrafted free agent signing out of Eastern Washington. The linebacker is the little brother of Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp.
The NFL deadline to set 53-man rosters is Saturday at 1 p.m. PT, and the Rams roster currently sits at 72 so they will have to cut 19 more players. They will have room for 10 of them on their practice squad though.
