The Los Angeles Rams are known for making big trades and going all in when they feel their Super Bowl window is open, and it appears they are at it again.
According to Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Rams are completing a blockbuster trade to acquire Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for Jared Verse, their 2027 first-round pick and more draft compensation:
The Cleveland Browns are finalizing a trade that will send two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams for two-time Pro-Bowl pass rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round draft pick and other draft compensation that is still being negotiated, sources told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero and ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Garrett to the Rams for Verse and draft picks now is expected to become the NFL’s latest blockbuster trade, and one of the biggest defensive trades in NFL history.
While the Browns trading Garrett a year after signing him to a record-breaking four-year, $160 million extension may come as a bit of a surprise, it is no secret that they are rebuilding and he was hoping to compete for a Super Bowl.
This trade gives him a chance to do that as the Rams are unquestionably the Super Bowl favorites with Garrett on their roster, while the Browns got an exceptional haul for the 30-year=old with Verse and a first-rounder.
Garrett is coming off a season in which he set the NFL sack record and will join a defensive line that includes Byron Young, Kobie Turner, Braden Fiske and Poona Ford. The Rams also addressed their secondary this offseason by adding both Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson.
The Super Bowl is set to take place at SoFi Stadium this season, and the Rams are unquestionably all in as they look to win their second one this decade in their home stadium.
While losing a former Defensive Rookie of the Year in Verse is tough, adding Garrett gives them arguably the best pass rush and defense in the league. Combined with a top-tier offense, Sean McVay’s team is ready to make a run in 2026.
How Rams drafting Ty Simpson allowed this trade
The Rams drafting quarterback Ty Simpson in the first round was met with a lot of criticism as it did not match the organization’s usual all-in approach.
By locking in their quarterback of the future though, it allowed them to be more comfortable trading future first-round picks to acquire a win-now player like Garrett.
