Raiders News And Rumors: Defense Is Key In Bye Week

After six games where the Raiders are 2-4, all the discussion has centered around the team’s defense. While all the media coverage has been about Terrelle Pryor’s emergence, the defense has been much improved due to defensive coordinator, Jason Tarver.

The Raiders are currently the 13th ranked defense in the league, giving up only 99 rushing yards per game (10th in the NFL) and 241 passing yards (15th). The combination of Charles Woodson, Lamarr Houston, and D.J. Hayden has drastically improved the defense and have kept the Raiders close in most of the games this season.

While the defense will continue to keep the Raiders in games, the real concern is whether or not the Raiders can score consistently. If the Raiders somehow find a way to generate more offense, there’s a chance this team can complete for a playoff spot this season if they get a win in Week 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
