Following the impressive win over the Houston Texans on Sunday, rookie quarterback Matt McGloin turned a lot of heads around the NFL with many believing he may be the better option under for the Oakland Raiders.
As of right now, Terrelle Pryor is still the starting quarterback for the Raiders once healthy. Although that appears to be the case right now, McGloin did enough on Sunday against an elite defense to create a quarterback controversy in Oakland once again.
After the win, McGloin saying the following about his mindset moving forward via Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News:
“There is always more to prove and more to do,” McGloin said. “I think I got off to a good start. But we’ll see.”
McGloin remains humble and motivated to improve after playing at a very high level against the Texans. The real question from here on out will be if head coach Dennis Allen and company will make the change from Pryor to McGloin moving forward.
It’s
a safe bet to say that Pryor will miss the Week 12 matchup against the Tennessee Titans back in Oakland. With McGloin playing well and impressing the coaching staff in Week 11, resting Pryor in order to get him back at 100 percent for the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day might be the best move for this team.
It’ll be interesting to see how Allen handles yet another quarterback controversy with the Raiders heading toward a short week. Oakland will host the Titans this week and then have three days to prepare for the Cowboys.
