The Los Angeles Rams dropped an overtime heartbreaker to the injury-plagued San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football despite having multiple opportunities to win the game.
The Rams had the ball at the two-yard line down by three in the final minutes of regulation when Kyren Williams fumbled on what could have been a game-winning touchdown.
Williams was visibly shaken up after the mistake and had to be consoled by coaches on the sidelines. L.A. still managed to even the score and send the game to overtime, only to lose when Williams was stuffed at the line of scrimmage on fourth down.
Poona Ford and Byron Young were among the Rams to defend Williams on social media after the 26-23 loss.

It’s good to see several Rams players come to the aid of Williams, who has been a key part of the offense for several years now.
Even with some costly errors at the end of the game, Williams still had a productive night on the stat sheet as he ran the ball 14 times for 65 yards while catching eight passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns.
On the final offensive play where Williams was stopped behind the line to gain, Rams head coach Sean McVay took blame for the call.
“It’s a bad call. It’s a bad call by me,” McVay admitted after the game. “The play selection was very poor. I’m sick right now because I put our players in a shitty spot. I’ve got to live with that.”
Kyren Williams takes blame for Rams’ loss to 49ers after fumbling
Kyren Williams also accepted responsibility for the Rams’ loss to the 49ers, stating that the team would have won if not for his fumble.
“Shit sucks. For me, I’ve just got to hold onto the ball,” Williams said. “I feel like I let the team down. At the 1-yard line, not securing the one thing that matters, scoring a touchdown, so I put this all on me, honestly, just know that I can be better.”
Williams added that the Rams can’t dwell on the loss and need to be ready for their next game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6.
“Shit, go back to work. That’s all we can do,” he said. “Obviously, fumbling the ball is not something you do in football so just got to get back to work and continue believing it and trusting it and knowing I’ll be better for it.”
