The Green Bay Packers received promising news to bring in the new years with veteran safety Charles Woodson officially cleared to play in Saturday’s playoff game against the division rival Minnesota Vikings according to Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk:
The Packers got a significant boost for Saturday night’s Wild Card rematch with the Vikings, as defensive back Charles Woodson has been cleared to come back from a broken collarbone.
Woodson has been out of the Packers’ secondary since October when he broke his collarbone in the win over the St. Louis Rams in Week 7.
Fortunately for Green Bay, the team caught fire in the second half of the season regardless of multiple injuries to important players on both sides of the football. The Packers were able to win seven of their last nine games of the regular season along with clinching the NFC North division title after Woodson went down with injury.
Along with Woodson, the Packers have also dealt with injuries to Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson and Clay Matthews. Although Jennings and Matthews are healthy and back on the field for Green Bay, the playing status of Nelson moving forward is uncertain at this time.
Nelson has been suffering from an ailing hamstring injury. The injury was exactly sustained in the win over the Vikings in Week 13 and may be enough to sideline him on Saturday at Lambeau Field.
Aaron Rodgers and company may be heavy favorites to come out on top against the Vikings this weekend, but will be hopeful for Nelson’s return as they do battle with a resilient Minnesota squad led by NFL MVP candidate Adrian Peterson.
If Peterson has another big day against the Packers, Green Bay may be forced to light up the scoreboard on Saturday with Nelson being a vital piece to the offensive puzzle.
