As has been the case each of the last two seasons, the amount of offensive firepower on the Los Angeles Rams will be something to behold in the upcoming season.
Quarterback Jared Goff is one of the main forces behind the No. 2 offense in the NFL from a year ago. Goff is in the midst of his fourth offseason in the NFL and third under head coach Sean McVay and his revamped Rams offense.
Recently during offseason workouts, Goff was reminded of how good the Rams truly are, via Clarence Dennis of therams.com:
“You forget how much offense we actually have because weekly it’s so narrow and so focused, and then you come back to this period and it’s like holy smokes we’ve got a lot of stuff available,” Goff said following Day 1 going against the defense.
“It’s good though, it’s good to kind of work out and find out what we like, try different things.”
The Rams were one of the most efficient teams in the NFL in 2018. They had the second-most yards gained and touchdowns while keeping their attempts relatively low.
Additionally, Goff says that he hopes to continue to improve his own game. In particular, he wants to continue to improve his pass completion rate which he has been able to do in each season of his young NFL career.
Goff, of course, is not the lone star for the Rams as his main targets have been Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods. Cooks and Woods both finished the season in the top 25 for receiving yards while bringing in a collective 11 touchdowns. The duo will also be reunited with Cooper Kupp, who went down in Week 10 with a torn ACL. Kupp is looking to make a full recovery and come back for the 2019 season.
Arguably the Rams biggest success has been in the run game. This has largely been behind the efforts of All-Pro running back Todd Gurley. Gurley finished 2018 with the fourth-most rushing attempts and third-most rushing yards. Furthermore, he was the NFL leader in rushing touchdowns with 17.
Gurley faced a moderate amount of injuries in 2018, mostly dealing with knee issues. He ended up missing the final two games of the season, which paved the way for C.J. Anderson to have an amazing two-game stretch to end the season and provided a big lift for the team in the playoffs. Unfortunately, Anderson opted to leave Los Angeles and sign with the Detroit Lions.
With Malcolm Brown and rookie Darrell Henderson though, the Rams should be able to limit Gurley’s workload to ensure that he remains healthy for the entire season.
