As a rookie with the New York Giants, Odell Beckham Jr. immediately burst onto the scene as one of the move explosive receivers and exciting players in the NFL.
Since then though, Beckham’s career had slowly declined for a variety of reasons, whether it be injuries, lack of coaching or lack of chemistry with quarterbacks.
Things got so bad with the Cleveland Browns that they opted to release him in the middle of the season, which is when everything turned back around for Beckham.
The now 29-year-old had the ability to sign with any team in free agency, and he opted to go to the Los Angeles Rams.
Beckham’s time with the Rams has been successful for both parties as Sean McVay has found ways to get him involved in the offense, especially in the red zone, and after the loss of Robert Woods to injury, the team was in dire need of a No. 2 wide receiver behind Cooper Kupp.
Beckham’s play has helped the Rams make the Super Bowl, which they will play in their home stadium against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
This will be Beckham’s first Super Bowl, and he expressed appreciation for being in this position after all he’s been through, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“It’s been tough. It’s a been a rough – since 2017, shattering your ankle, busting your ass, coming back time and time again and things just never went the way that I would like,” Beckham said during a video conference with reporters on Saturday. “Like I keep talking about, it was just that faith, staying down, staying prayed up, never doubting or not believing in yourself, that makes this very special for me to have an opportunity to play in a Super Bowl. You sacrifice it all just for these moments.”
Beckham had plenty of teams after him when he hit the open market, but the Rams seemed to be the perfect fit and it has worked out for him:
“I mean, playing in the Super Bowl is everything you could have ever dreamed of,” Beckham said. “When I was sitting at home, and there was nothing but silence, and it was just me and God just sitting there, this is what came over me. It was Los Angeles Rams, and the opportunity to do exactly what we’re doing right now. So it’s just pretty crazy to me, just the power of manifestation, belief, faith, all those things, to be exactly where I’m at now, with the opportunity to win a Super Bowl.”
Beckham is set to hit free agency again this offseason so it will be interesting to see if he and the Rams can come to an agreement on a new contract.
Before that though, Beckham has one more game to play as the job is not yet finished for him and the Rams.
