The NFL released the complete 2019 schedule on Wednesday evening, and the Los Angeles Rams’ journey back to the Super Bowl will not be an easy one.
The Rams’ first order of business will be a trip to the East Coast to take on the Carolina Panthers in Week 1 on Sunday, Sept. 8.
Things don’t get easier from there though as they then open up their home schedule in Week 2 by hosting the New Orleans Saints in an NFC Championship Game rematch.
Los Angeles then goes back on the road for their first primetime game of the season against the new-look Cleveland Browns in Week 3.
That will be the first of five primetime games for the Rams on the season as they travel to the Seattle Seahawks for Thursday Night Football in Week 5, host the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football in Week 11 and then host the Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football in Week 12. The final primetime game will be against the Seahawks on Sunday night in Week 14.
One order of business for the Rams will be establishing their dominance in the NFC West as they look to win their third consecutive division title in as many years under head coach Sean McVay. Although the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals are still in the midst of some significant roster changes, the Seahawks have proven to be every bit as competitive as they have been over the last several years. Los Angeles will close the season by playing four division opponents in their final five games.
Los Angeles’ Bye Week this year is in Week 9 after a trip to London to take on Zac Taylor and the Cincinnati Bengals in London in Week 8.
The rest of their schedule is filled with either bonafide playoff contenders or teams that are on the cusp of postseason contention. One other big game of the schedule is a playoff rematch against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 15.
It is safe to say that there is still plenty of bad blood after Los Angeles emerged victorious over Dallas en route to an appearance in Super Bowl LIII. Additionally, the Baltimore Ravens and Chicago Bears will also be looking to make a statement against the defending NFC champs.
Aside from having to deal with last year’s crop of elite teams, the Rams will also have to face off against those looking to return to their former glories such as the Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Atlanta Falcons. At this point in the offseason, it is safe to assume that there will not be many easy games in the 2019 campaign.
