The Los Angeles Rams are set to open up their new home in 2020, SoFi Stadium, a state-of-the-art facility in Inglewood that they will be sharing with the Los Angeles Chargers.
While the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has a lot of the world on hold right now, there still is excitement building for the 2020 NFL season as free agency went on as scheduled, as will this month’s draft, although it will be done virtually.
As if there wasn’t enough excitement surrounding the city of L.A. and the opening of the new stadium, it appears there will be some more added hype.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, if training camp is able to take place this year, HBO’s “Hard Knocks” will do its first-ever joint series featuring both the Rams and Chargers:
For the first time, “Hard Knocks” is planning to supersize and feature two teams in the same summer: the Los Angeles Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers, league sources told ESPN — if there are training camps.
No announcement is planned this week, as the NFL and NFL Films are focused on the first virtual draft in league history because of the coronavirus pandemic.
But NFL Films, which produces the show with HBO, would be excited to have not one, but two teams volunteer for “Hard Knocks,” and it would, in the words of one source, “be special to figure out the creative for a ‘supersized’ series this summer. “
The Rams were featured on “Hard Knocks” in 2016, their first season back in L.A. when Jeff Fisher was still their head coach.
While that would make them ineligible to be on the show again this year, it appears they will be making an exception for this joint edition with the Chargers.
The show will likely feature not only the opening of SoFi Stadium, but also behind-the-scenes content of both teams, which should be cool considering Rams fans will have the opportunity to see Sean McVay and Les Snead at work.
The coronavirus pandemic will have to get under control for this to take place though, so hopefully everyone continues social distancing and we can get back to regular life as soon as possible.
