After undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery on June 5 to clean up meniscus damage, Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger claims his knee has never felt better. According to CBSSports, Roethlisberger talked about how his knee feels brand new,
“It feels great; it feels better than ever,” Roethlisberger said, via 7MSport.com. “I feel like it’s a brand-new knee, and I feel younger than ever. I feel good.”
Roethlisberger went as far as saying he could have played one week after having his surgery performed.
For the Steelers, and their fans this has to be great news. Roethlisberger was plagued by knee issues last season, and even claimed the “wear and tear” took its toll after 13 starts last season.
“I think it was just general wear and tear,” Roethlisberger said. “It’s my right leg, so it’s my plant leg. Every time I drop back I put a lot of pressure on my right leg. A lot of quarterbacks’ right knees are probably a little banged up.”
While Roethlisberger is one of the leagues toughest quarterbacks he certainly takes on plenty on contact. Roethlisberger has been injury hit down the wire during the last two seasons. In 2011, he played the final four games of the season including a wild-card playoff games with an injured leg.
Meanwhile, finishing up last season Roethlisberger had an injured knee, as Charlie Batch filled his role for a couple games. In fact only once during his nine years in the league has Rothlisberger
played all 16 regular season games. That came back in 2008, the season Big Ben won his second SuperBowl.
For Roethlisberger, this marks the second time in his career he has had this type of knee surgery. In 2005, Big Ben underwent a similar type of knee surgery. The next season, he responded by leasing the Steelers to a SuperBowl victory.
The Steelers who had a disappointing season a year ago finished 8-8. The team finished the season losing three of their final four games.
