NFL News: Cowboys’ DeMarcus Ware To Have Shoulder Surgery

USATSI_8359352_154224518_lowresThe second-half of the 2012 NFL regular season was promising for the Dallas Cowboys as the team appeared motivated and ready to make a run at the NFC East division title. Tony Romo began playing at a high level and the team as a whole was coming together in the midst of the Jerry Brown tragedy.

Unfortunately, despite the late-season resurgence, the Cowboys simply didn’t have enough left in the tank against the division rival Washington Redskins in the regular-season finale. As a result, the Cowboys were unable to punch their ticket to the playoffs once again and a few of their star players will now tend to their ailing bodies heading into the off-season.

It was reported earlier in the week that wide receiver Dez Bryant will undergo surgery on his broken left index finger and it appears that veteran linebacker DeMarcus Ware will also have off-season surgery on his torn labrum in his right shoulder according to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com:

Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware said he will undergo surgery on his right shoulder Thursday but hopes he will be cleared to return to the field in time for training camp.

Ware had another solid season for the Cowboys recording a team-high 11.5 sacks. The veteran linebacker’s numbers weren’t as impressive as the last two seasons with 15.5 sacks in 2010 and 19.5 last season, but Ware continues to prove he’s one of the team’s best defensive players and a valuable asset in Dallas.

With owner Jerry Jones letting it be known that changes will be made before next season, there’s no telling what the Cowboys will look like later this year. Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan was the first to be fired and many more moves may following in the coming months as Jones tries to retool this team in an effort to compete in the NFC.
