The Los Angeles Rams announced that they have signed former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles to a one-year contract.

In search of a new backup quarterback for Jared Goff with the expected departure of Sean Mannion in free agency, the Rams hosted Bortles at their practice facility on Monday.

Bortles is just one year removed from taking the Jacksonville Jaguars to the AFC Championship Game, but he wound up being waived this offseason after a down 2018 season.

The former No. 3 overall pick by the Jaguars would serve as a very suitable backup though, and it appears that Sean McVay and Les Snead came to that same conclusion after meeting with him.

Bortles started 73 of a possible 80 games for the Jaguars the last five seasons, but has been a bit disappointing considering how highly touted he was coming out of Central Florida before being drafted.

The 26-year-old looked to have turned a corner in 2017, but took a big step back in 2018 and wound up being benched in favor of Cody Kessler late in the year.

In 13 games in 2018, Bortles threw for 2,718 yards, 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing a career-high 60.3 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 365 yards and a touchdown on 58 carries.
