Although the Los Angeles Rams have done what they can to maintain their star-studded roster, it appears the Detroit Lions are looking to take Malcolm Brown off their hands.

Brown has been testing the waters as a restricted free agent this offseason. Despite his small sample size, it seems he has garnered interest from some teams in the market for some depth in their backfield.

Brown has long served as a viable backup for Todd Gurley. His value to the Rams is now set to be tested this offseason.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates, the Lions have signed an offer sheet for Brown:

Restricted free agent action: the Lions have signed Rams RB Malcolm Brown to an offer sheet, per source. The Rams have until Monday to match it.

The fact that teams are interested in Brown’s services certainly come as no surprise. He has established himself as a solid complementary piece in the backfield and always seemed prime to receive more touches in the near future.

The 2018 NFL season was a disappointing one after his season was cut short due to a clavicle injury. He finished the year with 212 yards to go along with five receptions for 52 yards and a receiving touchdown.

The Lions already seem to have a workhorse back in Kerryon Johnson, who is coming off a promising rookie campaign. Regardless, Detroit knows full well they are going to need a solid backup to help take some of the stress of Johnson.

This leaves the Rams in a rather precarious position. While they still have a number of other voids to fill on the roster, general manager Les Snead has indicated that Los Angeles would like to lessen Gurley’s workload moving forward as well and Brown has proven to be more than capable of taking over. It will be interesting to see if the Rams match the Lions offer.
