Hurricane Sandy has come and gone. Only a path of destruction has been left behind by the devastating hurricane with many people on the East Coast left picking up the pieces in an attempt to rebuild.
Fortunately, the victims of the hurricane aren’t alone with the NFL and NBA pitching in to help the relief effort.
According to ESPN.com, the NBA and NFL will be making donations for the relief effort:
“The NFL and its players’ union and the NBA and its players’ union each will donate $1 million to the American Red Cross and other organizations to help in the recovery efforts in the Northeast after Hurricane Sandy.”
Along with two of the largest professional sports leagues in the country getting involved in the relief effort, the New York Yankees, Oakland A’s and Seattle Sounders and Seahawks are also doing their part separately.
The Yankees organization has donated $500,000 for the relief effort while over at CenturyLink Field in Seattle donations will be collected throughout the weekend when the Sounders play on Friday and Seahawks take the field on Sunday.
As for the A’s, Oakland will be doing their part to help the Salvation Army by accepting donations.
Charles Woodson of the Green Bay Packers also got involved in the effort by donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross. The Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City Thunder also lent a helping hand with the Magic donating $25,000 and the Thunder auctioning off autographed memorabilia. A portion of the proceeds of the auction held during Friday night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers will be donated to the Red Cross.
Needless to say, a lot of teams, players and fans are getting involved in the disaster relief to help repair those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
