The Los Angeles Rams offseason has certainly not gone as well as they had hoped. Numerous starters signed elsewhere during the offseason, and of course, the effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic have made doing anything in the offseason increasingly difficult.
The Rams did have one pleasant surprise in the return of defensive lineman Michael Brockers. After receiving offers from a number of teams this offseason, Brockers eventually settled on leaving Los Angeles for the Baltimore Ravens. However, that deal fell through after a specialist doctor working for the Ravens had an issue with Brockers’ physical due to an ankle injury he suffered at the end of last season.
With the Ravens deal falling through, that paved the way for Brockers to return to the Rams on a three-year contract. Now that he is back, Brockers shared that he never really wanted to leave, via Stu Jackson of TheRams.com:
“I always wanted to be back with the Rams, I always wanted to stay here,” Brockers said. “So for me, that was a blessing just to have a chance to get back with the Rams, and ultimately we made it happen.”
Brockers has only ever played for the Rams as a professional after being selected 14th overall in 2012, general manager Les Snead’s first draft with the Rams.
Since then, he has recorded 23 sacks, 229 solo tackles and 52 quarterback hits across eight seasons. There is no doubt that he has been one of the Rams’ most valuable players in his time with the team due to his ability to stop the run.
With another contract with the team under his belt, Brockers is on his way to spending an entire decade with one team, a feat reserved for very few players. Brockers understands what this means for him as a player and attributes it to his approach on working for the Rams:
“It’s a blessing first of all, and secondly, man, it’s just a testament to how I come into work,” Brockers said. “I come into work happy, joyful, never a down day because I get to choose how I come into work, and I love what I do and I love the people I’m around.”
Brockers will have to adjust to some new teammates in 2020, but hopefully he can still contribute as much as he has in recent years. So far, the Rams have only brought in two new players on defense in Leonard Floyd and A’Shawn Robinson, although more will be added in the upcoming draft.
