The notion of going 7-9 has become immortalized in Los Angeles Rams lore thanks to former head coach Jeff Fisher. It seems Michael Brockers feels it would be a very strong possibility if Fisher was still in Los Angeles.
The Rams are the only undefeated team left in the NFL. However, Brockers said during an appearance on FS1 that they would likely be on track to finish 7-9 had Fisher still been the head coach:
“Man, I don’t know, 7-9? Ugh, that sucks. And I love you Fisher, I just want to let you know, thank you for the opportunity,” Brockers said. “But 7-9, I just think the accountability – the accountability as far as everybody being on the same page, having just really strict core values of what this game is all about and what we’re about, I think we didn’t have. And I think that’s what we have now with Sean McVay. We have the same players, it’s just a different atmosphere.”
Brockers’ comments may seem a bit harsh. However, there is no denying that they are littered with truth. He is one of the handful of players left from the Fisher era. He understands all too well what it is like to play in a dysfunctional system. It appears the contrast in coaching styles between Fisher is almost night and day.
Although the writing had been on the wall for Fisher’s firing, the Rams still caught plenty of flak for making McVay the youngest head coach in NFL history. However, critics have been forced to eat crow ever since with Los Angeles now in the midst of a historic turnaround. Meanwhile, Fisher is forced to watch all the former players that once toiled under his tutelage blossom into some of the NFL’s elite.
