Much of the focus for the Los Angeles Rams during the 2026 NFL Draft came from their surprising selection of Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick in the first round. But their second-round selection, Ohio State tight end Max Klare also raised some eyebrows.

The Rams already have a pretty full tight end room with Colby Parkinson, Tyler Higbee and Davis Allen all catching at least 25 passes last season, not to mention the team also used their 2025 second-round pick on Terrence Ferguson. But Klare is just excited to be part of this tight end group and get to work, via Wyatt Miller of theRams.com:

“It’s a great room,” Klare said. “It’s gonna be fun to be a part of it. I’m just super pumped to meet the guys, get to know them, get to work with them and attack it every day with them.”

Many teams run 12 personnel, which involves two tight ends, but the Rams were one of the few who regular ran 13 personnel with three tight ends on the field. And in Klare’s eyes, there is nothing better than that:

“There’s nothing better than 13 personnel,” he said. “I am pumped up to be a part of that and I got to earn everything and put my best foot forward every day.”

Klare is certainly someone who can potentially provide another reliable receiving option for this Rams offense. He is a polished route runner with excellent hands and excels at turning upfield and making big plays after the catch. While not necessarily the most explosive athlete, Klare proved himself to be someone who can move the chains consistently during his college career.

With the Rams running so much 13 personnel, it does make some sense that they continue to add to the tight end room with someone else who can be a weapon and asset in Sean McVay’s offense. And his attitude and excitement to contribute to this team and put in the necessary work is great to see as well.

The pick may have caught some off guard, but the Rams have proven to be excellent at finding players who fit what they need and make an impact throughout the draft. Klare could very well be another one who fits the bill.
