Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams had an excellent opportunity to keep pace in the NFC West when they hosted the Miami Dolphins in Week 10.

While the Rams have been rolling the past few weeks, the Dolphins had been struggling though it was the latter that came away with a 23-15 victory. Now at 4-5, Los Angeles will have a tougher climb back up the standings and a longer shot to win the the division.

While the defense did a solid job limiting the Dolphins offense, the Rams’ own offense let them down as they couldn’t seem to string together many cohesive drives.

Matthew Stafford had a subpar day and noted how much Los Angeles got in its own way.

“It was just negative plays at the wrong times,” Stafford said. “Whether it’s a turnover, a sack, an inefficient play on first down or whatever it was. We shot ourselves in the foot a little bit in that kind of strike zone area, 30-yard line-ish area. That was probably the difference in the game and not coming up with touchdowns.”

As far as the offense as a whole, Stafford admitted that the group was inconsistent and took accountability for his own interception.

“We were tonight. Tonight, it was a little bit of this and a little bit of that. We got a sudden change and we turned it back over. I turned it over earlier with the tipped interception. [We] did some really good things and then weren’t good enough in some areas. Yeah, I would say tonight we were inconsistent.”

Stafford also said he thought the team would be able to put together a touchdown drive, but that never materialized and it ultimately cost them the game.

“We had some nice drives there in the second half. It felt like…we got it down, crossed the 50 [yard line], got it moving and then for one reason or another just didn’t finish them off. [We] didn’t score enough points, obviously.”

L.A.’s offense has been far too hot and cold this season and it’s cost them multiple games now. With the second half of the regular season now here, there isn’t much wiggle room for more self-inflicted wounds.
