The Los Angeles Rams’ Week 3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles was as heartbreaking as it gets in the regular season.
The Rams led the whole game before the Eagles took a late lead by rattling off 20 straight points. Matthew Stafford led the offense into field goal range for a game-winning kick, although it was blocked and returned for a touchdown, resulting in a 33-26 loss.
It’s no secret how badly the Rams wanted to win this game considering they lost to the Eagles in the playoffs last year. They certainly had plenty of chances to come out on top but were unable to finish the job.
After the loss, Rams running back Kyren Williams found the silver lining as he hopes his team can learn and get better from it, via Wyatt Miller of TheRams.com:
“I know I’m more hungry now than ever because I hate the Eagles but they put us through something that we need to get put through,” Williams said. “And I’m glad that it happened this early in the season because it’s only going to make us better later in the season. You never know what’s going to happen when it comes to those times in the playoffs where we need to dig down deep and find ourselves. Every man in this locker room is going to be able to do that now because of this experience here. So man, I’m just excited; excited for the journey, excited for this team, the individuals in my room. We’re going to keep punching that clock and going to work.”
One of the positives to take away from the loss was the Rams’ running game as Williams and Blake Corum combined to rush for nearly 150 yards. They are looking like one of the better duos in the league right now and Williams discussed what was working against a tough Philadelphia defense:
“Everything was working,” Williams said. “We knew how they were going to line up. If they got into that 6-1 (front), we knew what we were going to do, and, man, we did that. Blake and I, I think we fed off each other well today.”
It’s only been three weeks, but the pieces are in place for the Rams to be one of the better offenses and teams in the league.
It will be interesting to see how they respond to the tough Eagles loss, but Williams seems to be taking the right mentality and hopefully the rest of the team follows suit.
Matthew Stafford wants Rams to learn from loss to Eagles
Similar to Kyren Williams, Matthew Stafford spoke about how he wants the Rams to learn from their loss to the Eagles.
“Learn from it. There’s so many other plays in this game that we can learn from and be better,” Stafford told reporters postgame. “First and foremost, myself. Disappointed with how I threw it in some instances today. Just go back to it, continue to work hard and know that what you’re doing and the process that we’re doing is the right thing and find ways to win games.”
