Without a doubt the biggest name let go amongst the Los Angeles Rams cuts to get down to the 53-man roster limit was linebacker Akeem Ayers.

Ayers signed a two-year contract last off-season with the Rams and played in all 16 games for Jeff Fisher last season. His release was certainly unexpected, but it may not be the end for Ayers’ time with the Rams after all.

According to Jack Wang of the LA Daily News, head coach Jeff Fisher spoke about the decision to release Ayers, and it sounded like he wasn’t closing the door:

The potential return of Ayers could be necessary for the Rams as Ayers knows the playbook and style of the defense and could come back at anytime and make an impact.

If Ayers was to ultimately return he wouldn’t be the only player to come back after being cut. Defensive tackle Cam Thomas looks like he’ll be returning to the team as well.

Who knows what will ultimately come from this, but it certainly looks like Ayers could be back with the Rams at some point.
