The 2024-25 Pro Bowl rosters were announced on Thursday and the lone Los Angeles Rams player to make the cut was rookie outside linebacker Jared Verse.
Verse is in the midst of an outstanding rookie campaign with 65 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two pass breakups in 16 games.
He had no idea that it was coming though as he said he thought he was getting cut for oversleeping when Sean McVay alerted him of the news.
“I thought I was getting fired,” Verse said. “I took a nap after practice and I got three calls from [Head] Coach [Sean] McVay. I’m like, ‘I’m getting fired. Oh my God.’ I didn’t know what I did. I thought I was doing pretty good. He’s like, ‘You made the Pro Bowl.’ It was really surreal though. It felt amazing. Relief was first though, but it felt good.”
Verse also revealed who he called first when he found out about the news.
“I called my mom and dad,” he said. “I called my dad because my mom doesn’t answer half the time. I called my dad. He’s like, ‘I’m with your mom right now.’ I’m like, ‘I made it.’ They started freaking out. I was like, ‘I’m going to call you later. You all are yelling too much.’ Then I called my big brother second.”
Verse would go on to expand about what it means to him to make the Pro Bowl in his rookie season with the Rams.
“This is a great deal because think about how many rookies that get that nomination ever, not even just this year alone,” Verse said. “It’s really a testament to the work I put in, all the places I’ve been, Albany and Florida State, and the work I put in in high school. It was really a testament just to building up that resume that could put you in the conversation of he was not just a great player, [but] he was one of the great and one of the best at his position.”
Even thought Verse’s sack numbers aren’t eye-popping, anyone who watches him play can see the impact he makes on a weekly basis for the young Rams defense, making this a well-deserved honor.
Jared Verse on being only Rams player to make Pro Bowl
Despite going 9-2 in their last 11 games to clinch the NFC West, the Rams’ lone Pro Bowler is Jared Verse, who was very humble when talking about it.
“I think I’m always doing that in any aspect and that goes for everybody on this team,” Verse said. “Whether you’re at the store, whether you are at the Pro Bowl or whether you are working in the weight room here, I’m a Rams player and I’m a part of the Rams organization every day. It doesn’t really have to do anything with the Pro Bowl. I feel that every day.”
