Both the Los Angeles Rams new coaching staff and personnel have been chomping at the bit to get acquainted with one another. Thankfully, with the start of their offseason training program, the two sides can finally get to work as they prepare for the 2017 NFL season.
Although the Rams underwent quite a transformation this offseason, the focus remains on the progression of Jared Goff. According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, the former first overall pick is optimistic the Rams can make a jump in the right direction:
“I think we’re a lot closer to where we want to be than people may think,” Goff said. “We got the players, we got the talent, we got all the pieces we need. It’s just about putting it together now.”
There is good reason for Goff’s positive outlook as not only is he joined by head coach Sean McVay, but the addition of Andrew Whitworth, Robert Woods, and Lance Dunbar give him a healthy boost on offense. However, the Rams must continue to invest in more weapons at receiver to surround Goff with.
Meanwhile, the offensive line also underwent some re-tooling as well. The signing of Whitworth will give Greg Robinson a chance at redemption at right tackle. That essentially bumps Rob Havenstein to right guard and Rodger Saffold to left guard. However, based on last year’s performance, their positions as starters are anything but guaranteed, so the prospect of Los Angeles drafting another lineman is not out of the question.
