Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 13.
The Rams were in desperate need of a win after their playoff chances took a significant blow in their embarrassing loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 12. Fortunately, they were able to remain in the playoff picture with a dominant 34-7 victory over the Cardinals to move to 7-5 on the 2019 NFL season.
It is no secret that the offense has experienced a significant drop-off in their production compared to recent years. To no surprise, Goff has received the brunt of the criticism for their shortcomings due to his inconsistency under center throughout the year.
Fortunately, he was finally able to get this group back on track in a favorable matchup against a porous Arizona defense. It is safe to say that he took full advantage after completing 32-of-43 passes for 424 yards and two touchdowns en route to earning the weekly honor.
Not only did Goff enjoy a stellar individual performance, but he also showed that he is more than capable of leading this offense. They were clicking on all cylinders versus the Cardinals with running back Todd Gurley also putting together another notable outing with 95 yards and a touchdown on 5.0 yards per carry.
Although there is no question that Goff has endured his fair share of struggles, it should be noted that he has had to overcome some significant changes along the offensive line without a consistent run game to help provide some support. The onus will now fall on him to show that he can come through in games where the Rams need him the most.
That will certainly be the case in Week 14 when Los Angeles plays host to the Seattle Seahawks. It will be interesting to see how Goff answers the call over these next four games with the playoffs hanging in the balance.
