With a plethora of injuries piling up, the Los Angeles Rams orchestrated three trades in what was a busy Tuesday afternoon for general manager Les Snead.
The Rams first swung a deal with the Cleveland Browns for offensive lineman Austin Corbett, who adds much needed depth to an offensive line that just lost starting left guard Joseph Noteboom for the remainder of the season after he tore his ACL and MCL in Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
The Rams additionally made a much more notable trade with the Baltimore Ravens, parting ways with Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Peters in exchange for former UCLA linebacker Kenny Young and a fifth-round draft pick in 2020.
The blockbuster was a precursor to a mega-deal that saw the Rams land All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Jacksonville Jaguars for three draft picks, including two future first-round selections in 2020-21.
Ramsey now gets a fresh start with the Rams, who on top of trading Peters, just placed Aqib Talib on injured reserve with a rib injury. The five-time Pro Bowler hopes to return at the end of December when he’s eligible to be activated.
During an appearance on Uninterrupted’s 17 Weeks podcast, Ramsey made it a goal of his to show the Rams that they just acquired the undisputed best cornerback in the NFL:
“I’m filled with joy. I’m overjoyed right now. God is the greatest. God makes no mistakes at all… no mistakes at all. I was so blessed to be drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016, fifth overall pick. But now I have a new chapter starting in my life, going out to L.A., going to be a part of the L.A. Rams. Excited to be a part of that defense. Coach Wade Phillips, coach Sean McVay, coach Aubrey Pleasant. And I’m excited to get out there and do my thing for the L.A. Rams and show them that they got the best corner in the whole NFL for years and years to come.”
Since being drafted with the fifth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, Ramsey has established himself as one of the league’s best lockdown cornerbacks.
He broke out during his sophomore season in 2017, tallying four interceptions and 17 passes defended in 16 games en route to a Pro Bowl appearance — his first of two consecutive honors.
Ramsey will look to replicate that production with the Rams in what both sides hope is a successful long-term relationship.
