The end of the 2021 season was not a good one for the Los Angeles Rams, who allowed the San Francisco 49ers to come from behind and beat them in overtime.
The loss bumped the Rams down to the No. 4 seed which set them up for a Wild Card round game against the Arizona Cardinals, who also struggled down the stretch. However, Los Angeles also suffered some key injuries against San Francisco as they lost Jordan Fuller for the year and could be without Taylor Rapp against Arizona if he doesn’t clear concussion protocols.
With the team down their two starting safeties, the front office managed to lure former Rams captain Eric Weddle out of retirement. The news was met with surprise but Jalen Ramsey was one of the first members to welcome back the veteran, via his Twitter account:
My brother forreal❕ let’s get it EDub 😈 pic.twitter.com/Y1CSwxRTbg

The night before the announcement, Ramsey sent a vague tweet which caught the attention of the football world:

Prior to the Rams trading for Von Miller and signing Odell Beckham Jr., Ramsey has tweeted out similar ominous things and this time around was no different. It seems the defensive back is made aware of moves before they happen and could have even had a hand in convincing Weddle to re-up with L.A.
The move for L.A. makes sense as Weddle is already familiar with the scheme and should be able to step in and immediately provide some help though it was still unexpected.
Weddle’s lone season with the Rams came in 2019, which is the same year when they traded for Ramsey. Their experience in the secondary together will be key to ensuring the defense runs smoothly without Fuller, but it will be a tall task given their opponent is Kyler Murray and a still-dangerous Cardinals passing attack.
