Highlights & Takeaways From Rams’ Week 16 Loss Against Seahawks

The Los Angeles Rams headlined the Week 16 slate as they opened the festivities with a Thursday Night Football matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

The game between the two NFC West rivals carried massive playoff ramifications as the winner would control the fate of the No. 1 seed in the conference. If the Rams won, they would almost all but be assured of home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. However, a Seahawks win meant they’d clinch a playoff spot and be in the driver’s seed to finish at the top of the standings.

For a Los Angeles team that’s starting to endure injuries to key players, a first-round bye would do wonders. The Rams had already clinched a postseason berth in week 15 with their over the Detroit Lions, but the Seahawks game was still considered a must-win.

The first matchup went down to the wire, though the Rams were able to hold on after Jake Myers missed what would have been the game-winning field goal. In the rematch up in Seattle, it looked like Los Angeles was on its way to a more comfortable win after going up 30-14 in the fourth quarter.

However, the Seahawks stormed back in the final period behind a Rashid Shaheed punt return touchdown and a two-point conversation to make it 30-22. The Rams’ offense stalled out at the worst possible time though it was largely due to their inability to run the football after Kevin Dotson exited the game with an ankle injury.

Seattle wound up tying the game at 30-30 after an AJ Barner touchdown and whacky Zach Charbonnet two-point conversation. Despite all the gaffes, L.A. still had their chance to take the lead though Harrison Mevis missed his first field goal of the season 2025 season.

The game wound up going to overtime and things were looking up for the Rams as Matthew Stafford hit Puka Nacua for a 41-yard touchdown to make it 37-30. However, Sam Darnold and the Seahawks marched up field and got into the red zone. L.A’s demise came soon after as Darnold found Jaxson Smith-Njigba for a touchdown before sealing the game by converting on the ensuing two-point attempt.

It was a heartbreaking loss for the Rams, who now find themselves out of first place and potentially needing to go on the road on wild card weekend. While winning the No. 1 seed is still possible, the Seahawks have a favorable schedule down the stretch and the San Francisco 49ers are still very much in the mix as well.

This was a disaster of an outcome for Los Angeles, who now has to hope for some good luck to claim back the top spot.

What’s next for the Rams

The Rams will get an extended break before heading back on the road for Week 17 to take on the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football.
